Our History:
A Slice of Tradition, A Taste of Home
The story of Sal’s Jr. begins in 1978, when Domenico and Teresa Pugliese brought their rich culinary traditions to Virginia from Napoli, Italy. After visiting Radford, the couple fell in love with the community and decided to open their first restaurant, Sal’s Italian Restaurant, in West End Radford. Known for its fresh, made-to-order dishes and warm, family-friendly atmosphere, Sal’s quickly became a beloved local institution and remains a landmark to this day.
In 2004, Domenico’s son Alessandro (Sandro) expanded the family’s legacy by opening Sal’s Jr. in Fairlawn, Virginia. The new location offered the same commitment to authentic Italian cuisine while catering to the growing community. From house-made sauces to freshly prepared pastas, Sal’s Jr. upheld the Pugliese family’s dedication to quality and tradition.
Though Sal’s Jr. has its own unique identity, it is closely connected to its sister locations—Sal’s in Radford and Sandro’s Italian Restaurant in Christiansburg. Together, the three restaurants share a common mission: to bring the flavors of Napoli to the New River Valley while fostering a sense of family and community.
